Claude for Office

Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Install the add-in in each one separately, then the same gateway config works across all three. Outlook support is in beta per Anthropic — see the note at the bottom.

§00

Before you start

mode/hosted

Hosted users — you already have everything you need. Your short code does auth; mappings are pre-configured.

mode/your-key

Your-key users — configure at least one model mapping in the dashboard first. The Gateway URL is only useful once mappings exist.

What you'll paste
Gateway URL — your Hosted base URLhttps://hosted.reapi.net
API key — your short code (the 8-character one)
Gateway URL — your BYOK base URL (includes your short code in the path)https://byok.reapi.net/{code}/anthropic
API key — your own provider API key (e.g. the DeepSeek or Qwen key you configured your mappings against)
§01

Install the add-in

Install the Claude add-in in each of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel separately — the install doesn't carry across apps. In each one, go to the Home ribbon and click Add-ins. A popup opens listing Office add-ins. Search for "Claude by Anthropic" and hit Add. Repeat for the other two apps.

Windows: install paths differ slightly (the Office ribbon layout isn't identical to Mac). The gateway config flow inside the add-in is the same.

Open the add-in

Find the Claude button on the ribbon — it's a small amber starburst labeled "Claude". The first time you open it, you'll see the welcome screen.

§03

Pick Gateway

On the welcome screen, tap Cloud provider or gateway at the bottom. That opens the Connect another way screen with tabs for Gateway, Vertex, and Azure. Stay on Gateway.

Fill in Gateway credentials

Paste your Gateway URL and your Token, then hit Continue. The add-in runs a connection test — "Testing connection…" turns into "Connected" if the credentials are right.

Pick a model and chat

After Connected, click Continue once more. The add-in lands on the chat surface with your configured models in the switcher at the bottom. Pick one and send a message — your first response should stream back within a second or two.

Seeing "Enter model name"?

If the add-in shows "Could not retrieve the model list from your gateway" with an input box, your mappings aren't configured. The add-in asks reAPI for the list of allowed models (via /v1/models); with zero mappings reAPI returns zero models, and the add-in falls back to asking you to type one. Cancel out, configure at least one mapping in your dashboard, then come back and tap Back → Continue again.

About Outlook

Outlook's Claude add-in is labeled beta by Anthropic. On the Mac Outlook ribbon it appears under ⋯ → Get Add-ins → search "Claude" (different path from Word/PPT/Excel). After install, the add-in may show "Mailbox not connected — Couldn't connect to Microsoft Graph." That's Anthropic's issue, not reAPI's — the gateway path is the same.

You're done

Your client is now routing through reAPI. Head to your dashboard for mapping edits, activity, and wallet.
